History of Arcata Animal Hospital
Arcata Animal Hospital began as Arcata Animal Clinic, established by Dr. Stuart Fuller in 1950. Dr. Fuller started practice as a large animal veterinarian in Ferndale in 1943, working out of a garage. At that time Dr. Fuller was one of only two veterinarians in the county. By the end of his career, Dr. Fuller was a small-animal (companion) veterinarian only.
The original Arcata Animal Clinic was built about twenty yards in front of the 1701 Giuntoli Lane location (the original location is now an accounting firm). There were no phones at the new clinic for about three months. Phone calls were received at the Fuller residence, and Mrs. Fuller would hang a red flag out, and a runner would notify Dr. Fuller of the call.
In 1968, Dr. Fuller built a newer hospital behind the accounting firm.
In the early 1970s, Dr. Douglas bought the practice from Dr. Fuller.
In 1989 Dr. Oliphant purchased the practice and renamed it Arcata Animal Hospital.
In March of 2004, Dr. Oliphant moved the practice to an expanded modern facility at its present location, 1300 Giuntoli Lane.
